A 19TH CENTURY REGENCY FRAME BRONZE AND CRYSTAL 12 LIGHT CHANDELIER ~1830

A principal feature of a Regency ' Frame ' chandelier is the tent, a tapering form composed of ,say, thirty chains. Each chain might include perhaps thirty or so graded drops of six or seven sizes. The sizes increase as the tent falls and spreads so that there are no voids. This new type brought into flavour long ,tapered ( icicle ) drops and/or coffin shaped pendants as finials. The lower parts of these chandeliers were filled with concentric rows of these drops / ' waterfall ' which also hung in frinches around top features and from the drip-pans.

This important chandelier, probably a French interpretation made by Baccarat of this typically English chandelier around 1830. A central stem on which are placed six circular frames of varying diameter. On the main central frame and the top frame is placed a cast ormolu band with a floral ornamention. The twelve gilded bronze light arms with floral shaped drip-pans and nozzles are also constructed on this main frame.
